Here...We...GO!

Well... the adventure is about to start!

I figured that on this rainy day, it was as good a time as any to get this blog started. As many of you may or may not know, early in May I decided it was time to give professional golf a shot. Playing once every 2 weeks in Atlanta was certainly not doing it for me. So, I put in a notice at Georgia State and there began my journey.

I moved back up to VA on July 7th to the stronghold of 6811 River Front Dr. I knew that I had a lot of work in front of me... So, I got started by volunteering at the River Course so I could play/practice for free and I got into a consistent workout routine (something my former roommate in ATL would be proud of!).

Since May I've probably dropped around 25 pounds or so to get back into the 190's. (Let's just say it's been a while since that was the case...) Since being back in VA I've frequented a workout over in C-burg led by the mostly indescribable, sometimes insane, but definite workout machine in Gary Ross. If you want to get in shape, take his class for a few weeks! It's been an awesome experience because I now have the motivation to be in shape and someone to push me when I'm slacking. It's hard to stay motivated to be in shape when in the "working world". I'd have to say that I'm probably in some of the best shape I've ever been in which is awesome, but I know it's only one piece to the puzzle.

The main piece to the puzzle is, well, playing golf. Thanks to the gracious support from my parents I've been able to focus the last 3 months specifically on the game. I've probably spent more consistent time playing and practicing than I ever did when playing junior golf or collegiate golf. I liken it somewhat towards playing a guitar. I can seem to randomly pick up a guitar after not playing one for a couple of months and play it just about as good as I did when I left off. The ironic thing is if you keep playing consistently, eventually you get worse for a while because your hands begin to hurt and once you get going you realize that you've forgotten a lot more than you remember. That is certainly the case with golf.

I started off playing pretty well for about a week and a half and then I started taking a few steps back. What I can say for sure is that I've definitely improved every week since that point thanks to a lot of good practice and the help of Adam Nelson, head pro at Draper Valley. It's certainly hard to understand where you are going wrong, but when you have a knowledgeable person doing that for you it makes it a lot easier. His help has definitely helped me fine tune a lot of things and got me in a pretty good place to start off this journey.

I'm now just a few days from moving down to North Myrtle Beach to begin my first endeavor as a professional golfer. I will be playing on the NGA Winter Series Tour which hosts about 12 tournaments from the end of October through January. I think this is going to be a great place to get started and give myself an opportunity to gain a lot of valuable experience.

Well... I guess that's about all for now. I will certainly be blogging over the next few months as my life in golf unfolds. It's an unbelievably awesome opportunity and I'm certainly blessed to be in this position.

Until next time...
